What Makes Computer Engineers Different?
There are a lot of different courses that can be taken to work with computers. There are also a lot of courses that can be taken to work with electrical components.
However, there is only one course that combines both fields and that is Computer Engineering.
Computer Engineering is a course that combines computer sciences and electrical engineering. It is the most flexible course if you're planning to be in the technology industry.
By definition, computer engineering is the discipline that embodies the science and technology of design, construction, implementation, and maintenance of software and hardware components of modern computing systems and computer-controlled equipment.
These engineers design, build, and maintain hardware in modern computers. They focus on integrating hardware and software in a unified system safely and efficiently.
Although in the professional world, a computer engineer must always choose between doing hardware or software engineering.
Software engineering commonly involve the practice known as "coding" where most programs, applications and websites rely on to properly work.
Software engineers design and develop computer games, business applications, operating systems, network control systems and many other possibilities. The software industry is getting more and more popular as our technology advances since it is very in demand currently.
On the other hand, hardware engineers design and develop computer systems and their physical components. Hardware generally refers to a device that is physically connected to the computer.
For example, hardware includes things like monitors, keyboards, and also the insides of devices, like microchips and hard drives.
Without any hardware, a computer would not function, and software systems would have nothing to run on.
Although hardware and software engineering focus on different fields, both of them need each other to work as intended.
Essentially, the software that is built will guide the hardware and tells which tasks it needs to perform.
They are just like our physical body and the nervous system. Whereas the hardware can be the physical body parts and software being the nervous system that controls it.
Combining both of them makes a lot of projects possible and it is where computer engineers mostly shine.
The famous quote "Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one" can be used to describe computer engineers.
Surely, computer science majors or I.T. graduates can be better at computer engineers at software. Electrical and electronics engineers would also be better in building hardware.
However, a computer engineering degree allows you to learn and be part of both without having to relearn everything separately.
That is also the reason why I chose this course since I enjoy learning, discovering and integrating new things using my creativity.
Although ultimately, one of my goals is to also be involved in creating video games. Although that is a topic for another day. :> ≽^•⩊•^≼
